Even though it seems like yesterday, it’s been many years since I graduated college. After graduation, I had the honor to attend and be a bridesmaid in wedding after wedding. I remember one year, I had over 40 invitations to showers and weddings. My co-workers loved to give me a hard time that I was the girl from the 27 dresses movie. If you haven’t seen this movie, the girl I am referring to is the one who was always a bridesmaid but never the bride.
Well clearly, things changed and I got to be the bride. This current season of life seems to be a repeat of that season. I haven’t kept count over the years, but I have had the honor to attend and/or host lots and lots of baby showers. So many baby showers and so many babies. Not all, but most of my friends have children and some have already completed their family. Just in my local Moms in the Making group there have been 35+ babies. 35!
It would be easy to become jealous in this season. However, I choose to celebrate, because every person who celebrates a win, whether it’s a baby, a job or something completely different, gives me the opportunity to celebrate too. Because when I pray, believe and contend for someone and their prayer is answered, then I take delight in getting to celebrate with them. It’s a joy to watch the Lord pour out his blessings onto his people. Who wouldn’t want to see or hear the testimony of what God has done?
When you are in a community of believers, as I am, and you do life together, pray together, go through the ups and downs together, then your heart is to see each person experience the break-through they desire, right? I want to see others receive all God has for them, including the abundance of blessings, just as much as I want it for myself. Because when the person I have been praying for wins, I win too.
What about you? How do you handle it when others receive what you want? If in the past it has been a negative outlook, what if you looked at it in a different light, knowing that the Father gives good gifts to his children and if someone receives a gift, like a baby, then it’s from him. Do you realize that when you celebrate others, you are honoring God for who he is and what he has done? Yes, this includes when they get the one thing that you desire most.
Whether you are my best friend or I only know you through the internet, please know that when you win, I win too. When you win, I want to celebrate. When you win, I want to praise God. When you win, it’s not just you who gets to see the glory of the Lord, but those around you too. When you win, it’s not just your testimony, but others too. If you don’t yet view others’ wins from this standpoint, I encourage you to do so. It’s much better to celebrate all that God is doing than to curse it! I promise you, life will be much more fun when you realize that when those around you win, you win too.
