News Flash! Did you realize as believers in Jesus Christ that we are ALL on the same team! Lately, it seems like that doesn’t seem to be the case. Jealousy, bitterness, negativity, harsh words, and drama seem to be all around, but I feel led to remind you that we are all on this journey of life together!
I remember one of my mom friends telling me that “mom wars are real.” Have you seen the movie, Mean Girls where they are all fighting against each other? Well unfortunately this doesn’t just happen in the movies. The meanness can apply to anything. It could be said for “infertility wars” or “teacher wars” or “spouse wars” or “co-worker wars.” You could list any age or any walk of life and recognize relationships are not working how God originally intended.
I think we need to remind each other that the daily battle we are fighting is not against flesh and blood, but it’s against the principalities of this world! What does that mean? All the negative thoughts you have in your mind and in your heart, whether it is towards your spouse or a stranger, are not from the Lord! In other words, the battle is NOT against each other, but against the evil forces of this world. Yes, those thoughts are all from the enemy. Why? Because he comes to steal, kill, and destroy.
The enemy loves wars. He loves people not getting along. He loves when negative thoughts arise. He loves when the darkness out shadows the light. He loves jealousy and envy. He loves breaking up relationships. He loves fights. He loves drama.
So what can we do about this? We can celebrate with those who are celebrating, even if they have that exact thing we want. We can pray for those who are hard to get along with. We can encourage and speak positive words of life over those who don’t make it easy to do so. We can make the choice to cheer others on.
No more unfriending someone because they finally received a postive pregnancy test (remember we are all on the same team). No more attacking your husband because you feel like he did something wrong (remember we are all on the same team). No more bashing your friend because they bought that new house or car you wanted (remember we are all on the same team). We are all on this earth to love each other, to do life together, and to share Christ, but we can’t do that if our hearts and minds are pursuing negative feelings and seeking darkness.
Can we all come together as believers in Christ to cheer each other on? Isn’t that what scripture tells us to do? 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says “Encourage each other and build each other up.” Does that mean you have to be best friends with every person around you? No, but it does mean that you should keep your love on, even when it’s not easy.
I am the first to admit that loving other and cheering them on isn’t always easy. It hasn’t been easy to celebrate all those who have become a mom of one, two, three, or four already. It isn’t easy to host or attend baby showers. None of it easy. The easy route for me would be to be on a team all by myself. But, I know that is not a good option. The alternative to celebrating, loving, and encouraging others has nothing good to offer myself or the other person. Join me in choosing to celebrate others, even when it’s not the easiest decision to make. Choose life. Choose unity. Choose oneness. Choose celebration. Choose light. Choose friendship. Choose love. Choose to be on the same team.
