Walking Through Infertility with Jesus

Walking Through Infertility with Jesus

Walking Through Infertility With Jesus

It’s National Infertility Awareness Week, and I’m honored to share my 11th annual collaborative post. This year, I invited the leaders of our Moms in the Making support groups to reflect on how walking with Jesus through infertility has impacted their lives. My hope is that their words remind you that as a believer, it’s possible to walk this journey with hope, peace, and joy, even in the waiting.

Abby Garcia | Slidell, LA – Doing life with Christ during this waiting season means having hope, joy and healing, while the world says there is no hope, only depression and sickness.

Alicia Zapata-Couret | Fort Myers, FL – There is absolutely no possible way to go through infertility without Christ. Christ changed everything on the cross. He broke the power of sin, sickness, and disease. God himself breathes life, creates life, restores life. Without God and Christ, there is no hope. I would be hopeless, helpless and depressed continually without walking with God on this journey to grow my family.

Anna Vanwagner | Moores Hill, IN – My fertility journey is different as I walk hand in hand on who Father God says I am. I am a daughter of the king. I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I am joint heirs with Christ. Jesus dying on the cross is the biggest gift He could give me and to have eternal life. My identity is found in God alone, not in who He says I am. I have found hope in Him and I don’t have to idolize this fertility journey because although it’s hard at times, I know my Father has it all figured out and is giving me good plans to prosper that are full of hope. Since finding MITM ministry, I can have expectant faith even in impossible situations or diagnoses. The world will say to look at my age, my husband’s age, medical reports with all the cards in the natural world stacked against me, but I know what the Bible says. Even in the midst of despair, in what the world says or offers to hurry up and that I am running out of time, God’s timing is perfect. Without Christ on this fertility journey, I would be depressed and isolated, however with Him I have joy, peace and a friend.

Brittany Mulinix | Defiance, OH – Before I knew Christ and invited Him into my fertility journey, I was hopeless, alone and desperate. But having Christ in my life and as a part of my fertility journey, everything changed. I became full of hope and joy. I found a true community full of support and encouragement. My outlook on my journey was positive and hopeful – the opposite of the world’s view on infertility. I will forever be grateful for how Christ changed my journey and life!

Cassie Thompson | Edmond, OK – Without Christ, I know hopelessness and depression would have taken over my journey. The pain, loss, waiting and heartache would have become too much and moving forward would have felt impossible. But God… God wanted to be a part of my story. He wanted to be the writer of my journey. I had to surrender the pen, be the blank canvas and allow Him to write the most beautiful story of hope, faith, healing, redemption and showing His miracles are still alive and well today. Without Christ, I could not have pushed forward and would not have my miracle baby.

Heather Goodman | Auburn, KY – Christ gives me hope in things unseen. He’s restored my vision of myself and He’s given me the confidence to go to God, my Father, with big requests. While the doctors say there’s less than 0.8% chance of us having a baby, God says He wants us to be fruitful and multiply. He does things that we cannot comprehend every day. This is one of those things. I know God is making a way even when my circumstances don’t match up. He’s a good, good father and He wants relationships with His children.

JoyBeth Costello – Wichita, KS – Without Christ, I would be miserable and in constant fear wondering if I’ll ever have a baby. With Christ, I have PEACE in the waiting because I know that He has good plans for me and infertility is not the end of my story.

Joyce Stone | Falcon, NC  – I have gained so many tools to help me have hope, faith and joy while walking my infertility journey within the ministry. I have seen so much spiritual growth with the Lord in my own life. I have defeated generational curses with the tools and knowledge through the Lord and Moms in the Making.

Kaitlyn Rychlowski | Fond du Lac, WI – Prior to joining Moms in the Making, I felt broken, angry and alone in our fertility journey, watching others around me become pregnant. I thought that we were being punished and that our miracle would never come. When I joined Moms in the Making, everything changed. I realized quickly that infertility is not from God – He calls us to be fruitful and fertile and for abundance! Our fertility journey brought me to lay the hurt down at the foot of the cross and to a closer walk with the Lord. My husband and I are now members of a church that we attend every Sunday that feels like home. Through MITM, I now live in hope and in community with sisters in Christ who understand and lift me up and have quickly become my best friends! I am forever grateful and am believing for our miracle in His perfect timing. As I told my group, I am grateful for infertility being a part of our story – who would have thought?!

Katie White | Chillicothe, OH – Without Christ, I would be depressed, but with Christ, I have joy and peace.

Mary Isenberg | Olympia, WA – Without Christ, my diagnosis decided my future, but with Christ, my future is wide open for miracles. Without Christ, my life was controlled by the fear of never becoming a mom. With Christ, He has promised that I will not just become a mother, but a joyful one.

Morgan Smithhart | McKinney, TX – If I did not have Christ in my life, especially during my infertility journey, I would be so lost. I would be caught up in things of the world and not focused on things that really matter. That means I would have my priorities and values in worldly things such as other people’s opinions, comparing myself to others, focusing on all of the negativity in my life and I’d be idolizing people or things subconsciously trying to fill the void versus having Christ at the center of my life. I would also still be dealing with literal face numbing, arm tingling and severe chest pains caused by anxiety if God were not in my life. It is scary to even think about what my life would look like without Him! I am very glad that I have chosen and been able to grow closer to Jesus during my infertility journey. It is a choice to pursue that relationship with Him, but man, it is worth it! Having Christ in my life includes feeling His love, His peace, His grace and having hope when things seem completely hopeless. Not to mention, finding Moms in the Making and having like-minded women who are all facing similar hardships where we are able to lift one another up, pray for each other and lean on each other when things are difficult. This community and having God at the center to lean on is absolutely priceless.

Nachali Bakker-Noor | Netherlands – During 8 years of my fertility journey, I felt God at a distance. The waiting was hard and I was mad at God for the waiting. When I started to study the Word, my focus shifted from my journey to God. And I found out that He was always close, I just couldn’t see Him. God encouraged me through His word and people. I’ve received hope and confirmation that He has the final say, not doctors or men. With Christ, I’m light and salt of the earth.

And for me? I would not be where I am without Jesus. As a Christian, I believe we have the opportunity to walk through our fertility journeys in a completely different way than the world. We are set apart, we’ve been given authority, and we don’t live or respond like the world. That truth applies to this journey, too. Because of Jesus, I’m not discouraged or depressed. I’m filled with hope and joy. I’m not dreading the future, I’m expecting good things. My circumstances may not have changed yet, but my heart has and that changes everything.
