What encourages you on a hard day? For me, it’s a worship song and a good sermon. A friend sent me this sermon recently and it spoke so much to me. Levi Lusko addresses the topic of pain and loss through the eyes of God, or the analogy he used, the eyes of a lion.
But, what I love is that he pointed out that suffering is not an obstacle to being using by God, it’s an opportunity to be used like never before. Levi didn’t sugar coat the pain he has experienced, the loss of his daughter, and admitted that even though when as Christian we can hurt with hope, we still hurt. I love that he was real and raw about his feelings.
So why a lion? Lions have super vision and see 6x better than humans can. What if you chose to have tunnel vision and your lens was faith? Faith should always be the lens you are looking through! 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 says, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
Your trials are temporary so don’t focus so much on them that you inhibit the ability to look beyond into the eternal glory that you can’t see. Even though you might be full of pain right now, your faith in God will help you believe his promises to be true. Just as the verse says, fix your eyes “not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.”
As you shift your focus to the eternal you will realize that your pain is not without purpose. God is in the details. For instance, have there been any doors that have been opened because of your journey? I know the answer for me is yes. Because of our journey to believing for a miracle, this blog, my ministry, Moms in the Making, and so many friendships have been formed. What if I hadn’t been on this journey? So many doors were opened because not only because of our pain, but because we are willing to share our pain.
Consider it an honor that God trusts you with pain! He creates his toughest soldiers out of the hardest battles and no pain you are experiencing today will be wasted. As you suffer, God doesn’t call you to understand him, he calls you to worship him, so start looking at your pain and suffering through the eyes of God!
