It’s very evident in this day and age that you can access information anywhere. If you are a Christian, your time might be spent attending various bible studies, listening to podcasts, following bloggers, reading articles that pop up on facebook or engaging in conversations with those around you. So there is nothing wrong with any of that, right?
Well what happens when the truth has been compromised? What happens when churches and leaders stray away from scripture and start altering their own beliefs, because yes, I have seen that happen several times lately? What happens when people share blog posts that don’t line up with the Word of God?
A leader our church is always reminding us to keep our eyes fixed on THE truth. It’s clear that there are so many various ways we can get distracted. So many ways we can get pulled. It is dangerous to believe everything we read or hear, because what if it isn’t THE truth? As John 8:32 says, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Isn’t that we all desire? More freedom? More of Jesus? After all, he is “the way and the truth and the life.” John 14:6
Ultimately what matters most is that you know THE truth. Scripture. God’s Word. The bible. THE truth will set you free. Not the latest article, podcast, or blog post. And what about attending church? Yes, it’s important to attend a bible-believing church, not a church that chooses to believe half-truths or some-truths. While listening to a sermon online or attending church is clearly a good thing, it’s not such a good thing when it doesn’t line up with THE truth.
Please know, that this blog is no different. My desire is to share the hope of Jesus and encourage you in the waiting. The last thing I ever want to do is mislead anyone, so if you read something that doesn’t jive with your conscience through the Holy Spirit, then dismiss it. If you read something you know to violate THE truth, then stop reading.
My encouragement to you today? Make sure what you read, who you follow on social media and how you spend your time is feeding you THE truth — directly from the Word of God. Know that there is also a huge difference between facts and THE truth, so whatever you do, trust and believe truth that is founded on the Word of God and don’t compromise it with anything or anyone else.
