The Closest Distance Between Two Points

Tim Dilena, who obviously has been my favorite pastor to listen to lately, spoke about the verses in Proverbs 3:1-6.

My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you;bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight

This is such a solid verse. One that I have known for years, but was refreshing to hear Tim speak about it.

In the verses in Proverbs Solomon gives us 3 straight paths to take:

1 – Trust in the Lord with all Your Heart- We know absolute truth exists because God always tells the truth. We can trust him because he is trustworthy. We should bring all things to God in prayer knowing He has good plans for us and already knows our heart desires. We might not understand everything God wants us to do, but we need to trust Him with what he leads us to do.

2 – Lean not on our own understanding – We should put all our weight and rest in Him. He knows what is best for us. He is a better judge of what we want than we are. We should be willing to listen to and be corrected by God’s word and wise counsel.

3 – Acknowledge Him in all your ways – We need to turn every area of life over to God. When we make Him a vital part of everything we do; then he will guide us because we will be working to accomplish His purposes.

And, what is the result when we do these 3 things?

God promises us that He will make our paths straight.

So how do we get to where God wants us to go as quick as possible? How do we avoid wrong directions? It took the Jews 40 years on the wilderness journey in what could have only taken 11 days had they sought God. How do we avoid a similar situation?

We do this by trusting, leaning, and acknowledging Him in everything! My prayer for this journey is that we can continue to seek him 100% with all areas of our lives as we look for direction for what God has in store for our family.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.- James 1:5
