Do you approach the Lord with bold prayers? I am not talking about asking for protection over your ride to work. Although there is nothing wrong with those type of requests, what about approaching God with the impossible? You know, those things that seem out of your comfort zone to ask?
Do you know what the word bold means? It’s going “beyond the usual limits of conventional thought or action.” It’s “not hesitating and necessitating courage.” When you think about the prayers you pray, do they necessitate courage? Do they go beyond the normal prayers?
In Acts 4:23-31, Peter and John raised their voices in prayer. Verse 29-31 says, ” ‘Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.’ After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.”
Peter and John prayed with “great boldness” or as the message translation says, they prayed with “fearless confidence.” And what happens at the end of this passage because of their bold prayers? The place shook and they were filled with the Holy Spirit.
Do you realize that what you pray for reflects what you believe about God. Think about it. How great do you think our God is? If you agree with all the character attributes of God – that he is healer and provider, Alpha and Omega and sovereign over all, then are your prayers lining up with those truths too?
Reflect on your prayer life. Do you pray big prayers, believing God will answer them? Or, just small ones that indicate a lack of faith in his almighty and miraculous power? Go beyond praying for little things and instead pray for the big things. Pray for miracles to happen. Expect that as you pray bold prayers the ground underneath you will start shaking!
