Every month I get my hopes up that this month will be different. And every month when it’s not, it’s disappointing. But every month, when I learn that it’s not the month, I get to make a decision on how I am going to handle the situation. Will I grow angry? Will I become sad? Will I give up? And ultimately, will I curse God or will I praise him?
It’s not just every month that I have to make these decisions, but really every day. When things don’t go my way, will I curse God or will I praise him? When I get another call with bad news, will I curse God or will I praise him? When my wait turns from months into years, will I curse God or praise him?
“I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.” Psalm 34:1
There is a song that I love by Bethel, called Ever Be, which has a lyric that says, “Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips.” So, what about you? Will his praise ever be on your lips? Will you praise God at all times? Or do you only choose to praise him when you get want you want? Do you only choose to praise him only when life is going your way?
You have the privilege to use praise as a tool to completely shut out the enemy. There is no room for negativity or evil to reside when praise is the only thing on your lips. When you praise God, consider it a step of faith to not only look beyond your current circumstances, but to thank God for who he is, what he has done and what he will do. What father doesn’t want to be shown love based on who he is, instead of what he does? Your heavenly father is no different and I believe as your father it’s one of God’s favorite things that you do.
There is no negativity, complaining or cursing in heaven, so don’t let it be an option here. Instead of letting your circumstances around you dictate the words that come out of your mouth, only let praise be an option. No matter what, choose to “extol the Lord at all times” and you will soon notice that praising God instead of cursing him will turn your focus away from you and your problems and onto him. If you want to create the environment to experience heaven on earth, make sure praise is the only thing on your lips!
