I have been getting so frustrated lately. I can’t tell you the amount of time I waste every day trying to remember my passwords. It feels like all day long, across various websites, I’m clicking the forgot password button, which then leads me to reset it and start the process over with trying to memorize a new password. From unlocking my phone, opening the garage door with the keypad or checking my bank account I definitely use passwords all day long and I am sure you do too. Can we all agree, that it’s so frustrating when getting locked out?
Just as numbers and letters give you access to all your accounts, there is a password that gives you access to unlock your miracle. Psalm 100:4 in the message says, “Enter with the password: ‘Thank you!’ Make yourselves at home, talking praise. Thank him. Worship him.”
What if you started thinking of thankfulness as a password to unlock your miracle? Thankfulness is the key you are looking for and will unlock the miracle that you are believing for. Thankfulness brings answered prayer and it brings breakthrough. But, it’s so much more important than that. Even if the Lord never once did one more thing for you, do you realize you still have so much to be thankful for?
I love the story of Luke 17:11-17 where Jesus heals 10 men with leprosy. Out of those 10 men that were healed only one thanked God. One! Luke 17:16-19 says, “He fell to the ground at Jesus’ feet, thanking him for what he had done. This man was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, ‘Didn’t I heal ten men? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?’ And Jesus said to the man, ‘Stand up and go. Your faith has healed you.‘”
What a powerful story and what a great reminder of what thankfulness does. After receiving healing, 9 men just got up and left, but the one Samaritan stayed to thank God and then received more than he had asked for. “Your faith has healed you.” All 9 men received the gift with an ungrateful spirit, but because of the one man’s grateful spirit, he grew in the understanding of God’s grace and learned that his faith played a role in God’s healing.
And the best part? Even though I hadn’t planned to tie this in to what I shared in my last post, because of his faithfulness, God didn’t just heal his body, but he healed his heart too. This story gives us a picture that the other 9 missed out on additional blessings from God; the healing of the heart, which is what matters most. I wish I understood why they left without saying thank you, but perhaps it was because they felt entitled. Whatever it was, they might have been healed physically, but they were missing the greatest healing of all; the healing of the heart. And, they missed out on the chance to give glory to their Father.
I don’t want to ever feel too entitled or too full of pride that I forget to thank my Father for all he has done. I believe when we are praying for something and waiting we should always be thankful, even before we receive our miracle. Don’t withhold your thankfulness while waiting for something to happen. Start to thank God for what he has done, what he is doing and what he is going to do. Join me in living a life full of gratitude. I thank Jesus every day for our babies. I thank him for the trials we have endured. I thank him for the joy, strength and peace he gives me daily. The list of the reasons I have to be thankful could go and on and I know your list is just as long.
Thankfulness unlocks the door to heaven. It sets you up to not only receiving healing of your physical body, but of your heart too. Thankfulness creates a presence for God to heal you and ultimately thankfulness is the password that will bring the miracle that you are waiting for. Don’t lock yourself out of all God wants to do. Instead, remember the password; thank you!
