Memory Monday – Week 98

Memory Monday – Week 98

In John 15:12 – 17, Jesus speaks of His love. John 15:16 says, “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit–fruit that will last–and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”

It’s so refreshing that Jesus first loved us. There is nothing that we had to, have to now, or will have to do to earn His love. He made the first choice. Our relationship with Him is solely based on love. He desires a relationship with us. He invites us into one and as the last part of this verse tells us, whatever we ask in HIS name, He will do for us. Not because we deserve it, but because He is a giving and loving father who wants to bless us.

It’s up to us to accept or reject His love. When we accept Him as our Savior, He commissions us to go into the world to bear fruit. What a humbling gift He has given us! He gives us the opportunity to lead others and desires for us to love others, just as John 15:17 says. There is SO much fruit we can bear. The opportunities He trusts us with are endless.

When we remain in Him, we can bear fruit because of Him. Just as talked about at the beginning of Chapter 15, He is the vine and we are the branches. We must know Him and know His word, so we can follow His invitation to bear fruit. The more we are in tune with Him, the more we will recognize the areas and ways He is using us to bear fruit.

I just had friends over yesterday and we were outside looking at our garden. Can I tell you how exciting it is that we have more tomatoes than we know what to do with? But, the plants that have not done well, well, it’s disappointing. Isn’t it the same way with our lives? The fruit we bear is rewarding. It brings joy and life. But, if we bear no fruit then we aren’t following the commission Jesus gave us. He loved us and appointed us to build His kingdom. It’s up to us to be obedient to what He has called us to do. Don’t miss out on His invitation to choose Him, bear fruit, love others, and receive an abundance of blessings from Him.
