Memory Monday – Week 85

What words has the Lord spoken to you? Psalm 119:49-50 says, “Remember your promise to me, your servant: it has given me hope. Even in my suffering I was comforted because your promise gave me life.”

This verse calls us to remember and reflect on what the Lord has spoken. Besides the word of God, I think when we hear from the Lord the best thing we can do is write it down – similar to what Habakkuk 2:2-3 tells us. The promises He has spoken and His word are what make hope arise. At the end of the day, whether it’s a good or bad day, His word and the blue sock moments He has spoiled us with are what motivate me with hope and remind me to keep pressing forward. It amazes me that no matter what happens throughout my days, the minute I open up His word and reflect on His promises my hope is renewed. For those who feel like they haven’t heard from the Lord I encourage you to seek Him and read His word and you will gain understanding of more of His promises.

Just like the Psalmist, when we have hope in the word, then we can find comfort, even in our suffering. Comfort and suffering are probably two words that we never thought would go in the same sentence, but I love that with God this is possible. God wants us to find our comfort in Him while we are suffering. This verse is written during a trial, not after coming out of the trial and is proof that no matter what we face the Lord will comfort us when we seek Him.

Lastly, His promises give us life! There is power in our words and there is power in His word and when we combine them, life is produced. Not only spiritually, but physically and emotionally too! Find comfort, not in this world, but in Him during your trials.
