Memory Monday – Week 71

Memory Monday – Week 71

After being out of town the last 4 weekends, one of the things I was looking forward to most this past weekend was going to church. I crave it. It feels like home to me. I loved the word our pastor shared which included John 8:32, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Jesus is the truth (John 14:6). When we know him, we become more free.

The truth overtakes every lie. Every sin. Every feeling of condemnation. If you don’t know the truth (Jesus or the word) then you can’t be free from sin. This verse refers to ‘you’ as anyone who is a believer in Jesus.

In John 8:34, Jesus says that everyone who sins is a slave to sin. This is the exact opposite of verse 32. Being in bondage to sin is the exact opposite of what Jesus has paid for. He paid for our freedom on the cross.  All sin does is enslaves us, dictates us, and controls us. There is no freedom when we are bound to sin.

If you wonder why you feel like you are in bondage to something (money, status, etc) turn from focusing on this world to focusing on Jesus. The more you focus on the truth (both Jesus and His word) the more free you will become. For where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom!
