There are so many people suffering right now, it’s evident when you turn on the news. Christians are getting persecuted. Planes are getting shot down. Family members are passing away. Suffering is all around us.
Our trial is nothing compared to what most people are going through. I fully realize that and although yes, I do consider infertility and loss of a loved one a trial, I will also so I recognize how blessed we are. We have had a very hard year, but that doesn’t take away from all the blessings we do have.
In 1 Peter 5, Peter addresses Christians in the midst of suffering. Peter reminded the Christians that they would be restored, made strong, firm, and steadfast after suffering for a little while. God, who shows you his kindness and who has called you through Christ Jesus to his eternal glory, will restore you, strengthen you, make you strong, and support you as you suffer for a little while. 1 Peter 5:10 For some, this was specific to a trial they were going through, for others, it ultimately meant that they would be released from their suffering through death, much like Kai was.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we weren’t called to suffer at all? This verse says, we are called. Called. Not called to waste our time or to make us miserable and bitter. But, there is so much purpose in the calling. It strengthens, restores, refines, and supports us.
Know that there is an end to whatever you are facing today. Whether it’s something absolutely heartbreaking, like the death of a loved one, or a trial like a financial crisis, Jesus is going to restore your situation. Praise Him for the great work He is doing in you while suffering, one day you will look back and realize how you were conformed to His image because of your trial.
