This weeks verse comes from the story of the Withered Fig Tree in Mark 11:20-24 where Jesus tells the disciples they can pray for anything. I have always loved this verse, but a friend wrote it on a card and brought it up to me a few weeks ago after praying over us during service. I will always remember her giving it to me and it has a special meaning now.
The miracle in this story is a result of answered prayers that were prayed in faith.
Mark 11:22, says, ‘Have faith in God’. It says not to put your faith in the object of what you are praying for, but to put your faith in the one person who is going to answer your prayer – God. If you focus too much on what you are praying for, you are missing the best part of your time of waiting – time with Him. We should model our prayers much like Jesus did. He didn’t put His interests first, but He put God’s. Mark 11:36 says, ‘Everything is possible for you. Not what I will, but what you will.’ This should be our same mindset. Releasing all control to Him, and praying His will for our lives.
In Mark 11:23, Jesus uses the picture of moving a mountain into a sea, as that would seem impossible to any of us. He uses this to demonstrate that when we pray, with faith in God, He can do anything.
The Lord acts on the behalf of every prayer prayed. He moves in the supernatural and even though His actions are not always immediately seen by us, we must believe that when we pray He is acting and answering. If we fail to believe until we have seen the results or the answered prayer, then that is not faith. Mark 11:24 says to pray and believe you ‘have received it’, not ‘you might receive it’. Pray believing it’s already yours!
