Memory Monday – Week 32

Memory Monday – Week 32

As we get closer to celebrating Christmas, I thought it was time to switch gears for my memory verses and share more about the most important day in history; the birth of Jesus. I can’t share Matthew 1:23, without also sharing Matthew 1:20-22:

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”(which means “God with us”).

In verses 20-22, the angel declared to Joseph that Mary’s child was conceived by the Holy Spirit and that it would be a son, named Jesus. Joseph must not have been aware that Mary was pregnant by the Spirit and this is why God had to send an angel. The conception and birth of Jesus was a supernatural event, way beyond anything our minds can comprehend.

The whole reason Jesus came to this earth was to save us from our sin. Jesus means, ‘the Lord Saves’.  No matter how much we try, we can’t conquer living a sin-free life. Because of that, we need Jesus. Jesus doesn’t help us save us from ourselves, but instead He steps in to be our Savior. He meets us in our sin to save us from our sin! How powerful is that?

Matthew 1:23, fulfilled the prophecy (from Isaiah 7:1) of Jesus being the Emmanuel. Even today, thousands of years later, He is still present in every one of our lives. He is the great Immanuel and He is with us. I hope during this Christmas season that each and every one of you know that Jesus came not only to save you from your sins, but also to be your Immanuel; He saves you and He is with you!

A reminder that today is the last day to enter to win the Jesus Calling giveaway!
