The Memory Verse last week was Hebrews 11:1, which tells us to put our faith in the unseen. This week I’m sharing Matthew 17:20, another verse on faith.
The context behind this verse takes place when disciples, who were unable to drive out the demons, asked Jesus why they couldn’t. Jesus pointed out it was due to their lack of faith.
In this passage, all that Jesus requested was that if they had faith as small as a mustard seed, the mountain would move. Faith as small as a mustard seed was sufficient enough. He didn’t measure the size of faith by the ocean or sky, but the mustard seed, which was such a small particle.
There is so much potential in such little faith. I think sometimes it’s so easy to get wrapped up in how small or big our faith is or maybe how many times we pray and ask. We need to remember that it is God who moves mountains. Even though faith must always be present, It’s never our faith that causes the mountain to move, it’s always God. We need to make sure as Christians we put our faith in God, not in our own abilities, our actions, our circumstances, or other people. If your problem seems too big to face, stop fixing your eyes on the mountain and start fixing your eyes on the one person who can remove the mountain. With Him, nothing is impossible.
