As humans in this fast paced world we are always looking forward to what is next. Whether we just woke up and are thinking about our morning plans or it is 5 pm and we are thinking about what to make for dinner, the next thought we have or step we take always places us in the future. So, what do we use in the material world to get from point A to point B? Our eyes. But, what about the spiritual world? How are we supposed to get from point A to point B?
It takes FAITH.
Just as our eyes get us from Point A to point B in the material world, faith gets us from point A to point B in the spiritual world. It’s what helps us when our eyes can’t see, our ears can’t hear, our nose can’t smell and our tongue can’t taste.
The definition of faith is complete trust or confidence in someone or something. This isn’t partial trust, but complete and absolute trust. There is no room for doubt and there is no room for hesitancies. Just as our eyes produce complete evidence of visible things, faith produces complete evidence of spiritual things.
Faith is having belief beyond reason. It’s showing qualities of certainty and sureness. When we can trust God’s character – that He is who He says He is, we can have faith in His promises – that He will do what He says He will do. When we live by faith, it’s relying on God’s word and His character, instead of what all of our natural circumstances are dictating. There is no physical explanation for it, but that is where the spirit intercedes. It takes our willingness to trust for faith to manifest.
The last part of this verse says ‘of things hoped for and certain of what we can’t see’. Would faith be necessary if we could see what we are hoping for? Of course not. It’s only a necessity when we don’t have what it is we are desiring. So when we have faith, does that mean we will receive the blessing we are hoping for right away? No, of course not. But it does position ourselves to receive the blessing when it’s in the right time.
What does this look like for us? Faith for us is trusting that the Lord will bless us with a baby, naturally. It means that although our circumstances tell us that it’s impossible, doctors have told us it’s impossible and others have told us it’s impossible, we continue to remain steadfast, having faith in the true author of life and the promises in His word.
I encourage you to get rid of all your doubts, fears, anxieties and lack of trust. Stop putting your faith in the most recent doctor’s appointment you had or how your body feels today. Take time to spend time with the Lord and focus on His promises. I believe if we TRULY comprehended who Jesus is, then trust and faith in Him would never be an issue. Stop looking at the situation around you and instead fix your eyes on the Lord, the author of all the promises. He is the one who died for you so you can live and walk in complete freedom and faith in every one of His promises.
