“Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me.” This is something we have all heard, most likely as a child. However, this is not what scripture teaches us. Our words have power.
The verse I’ve chosen for this week is Proverbs 18:21 and I’ve been really excited about this verse for a while. It’s one I wish I had known years ago. It goes along with what the Lord has been teaching me, which is that we are called to speak LIFE.
Just like our actions can hurt someone physically, our words have an impact emotionally and spiritually. This verse tells us that our words determine the direction of our lives. We can either speak LIFE or we can speak DEATH. We can choose to speak to death, depression, discouragement, failure, doubt and fear OR we can choose to speak to life, joy, hope, faith, and a future. We should never speak words that are harmful because all it will do is plant a seed of death. Instead speak by faith – using words that agree with the word of God, instead of your circumstances around you.
What does this mean for us? We are praying for natural conception. The term ‘infertile’ is no longer in our vocabulary. We choose to speak to the mountain of barrenness and we command it to move, just like in Mark 11:23-24 which says, “Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
Remember when I started the Infertility Support Group? Then the Lord presented me with this verse and that’s when Colby and I started doing daily confessions over our situation (which I would love to pass along to anyone who is interested) and declared ourself as fertile, ‘Parents in the Making’. That is how the Mom’s In the Making name came about. We declare that we will be parents. We NEVER say things like “oh, it will never happen to us” or ”oh even if I got pregnant I would probably miscarry”. I encourage you to rid your mouth of such speech!
This doesn’t just apply to fertility. What about your marriage, friendships or work environment? Do you use critical speech? What about nagging? Watch your tongue and make sure it’s only producing words that lift others’ up.
What are you praying for? Are your words speaking to move the mountain or are do they speak to death which causes your mountain to grow? Ask God to move your mountain. Speak to it, don’t let the fear of the mountain speak to you. Death or life are in the power of your tongue. Choose LIFE!
