Memory Monday – Week 19

Memory Monday – Week 19

I’m excited for the verse this week. The Lord has been teaching me a lot about the word hope lately, and He has used Hebrews 6:19 to do so.

The biblical definition of hope is a “strong and confident expectation”. It is an indication of certainty that stresses the future. Hope deals with putting our faith in something that we can’t see or waiting for something we haven’t yet received.

How does a ship remain steady during a storm? What is the only way it can stay in the same place as the water gets rough? An anchor. Just like a ship in a storm, we too need to hold on tight to something when we face trials. We must remain steady, without wavering up and down or left to right.

The anchor to our soul is hope. When our hope is in God’s word and in Him, there is no storm too big or too rough that can shake us. When we anchor ourselves down to hope and trust in the Lord, we set ourselves up for an attitude of waiting expectantly and we prepare our eyes and hearts for the miracles that we are waiting for.

This steadiness that we desire reminds me of a song I posted back in May, called “We Won’t Be Shaken”. The lyrics say that no matter what comes our way, we won’t be moved. The Lord knows our every longing, prayer, and weakness. When we trust in Him we won’t be shaken!

What do you place your hope in? Is it on solid ground – the promise of God and His word? Or, do you put your hope in something that can be shaken? The latest news from the doctor’s appointment or your last pregnancy test? Or, maybe it’s news your co-worker recently told you or the stock markets recent gains or losses. Put your hope in Him – the only one who can fulfill your desires. He is our anchor!
