Matthew 12:34 Memory Monday – Week 103

Matthew 12:34

Are you words full of bitterness, anger, and hurt, or are they filled with life, hope, peace, and love? Whether you realize this or not, the words that come out of your heart are a direct reflection of what is in your heart.

“For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.” Matthew 12:34

When words of hate or negativy come out of someone’s mouth it’s because their heart has become hard or they themselves are hurting. Which means if you have been storing up anger or pain for years and years, it will reflect in your words.

The beautiful news is you don’t have to be bound to your past, but you can find complete forgiveness and freedom. That is a topic for another blog post, but I want to encourage you that when you seek healing over wounds from your past, not only will your heart be healed, but your words will be healed too.

Matthew 12:34 reminds me of Proverbs 23:7, which says “For as he thinks in his heart, is what he really is.”  Your heart, mind and heart are all directly connected to one another which is why the thoughts you have eventually become the words that you speak.

If you want to work on what comes out of your mouth, remember it all starts at the heart! After seeking healing from the pain from your past, spend time meditating on God’s Word which is full of life. It’s inevitable that when you hear and study His Word and fill your mind with His truths, life-giving words will abound.

The best way to know the condition of your heart is to pay attention to the very words you speak. What words have you been speaking lately?
