Isaiah 43:2 has been such an encouraging verse over the last few weeks: When you go through deep waters, I will be with you! When you pass through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned up; it will not consume you!
Just like James 1:2, which says when you encounter trials of many kinds, Isaiah 43:2 says when you pass through the waters. Trials and hard times are inevitable. It is not a question of if you will encounter trials, it’s a question of when they will happen.
What is it that you are facing? Deep waters? Rivers of difficulty? A fire? It might be death, infertility, miscarriage, a loss of your finances, health, house, or marriage. Trials vary – sometimes they are less taxing like water, which overwhelms you, but sometimes they are like fires and they completely consume you.
I feel like I’m in the fire and I want to run. Run as fast as I can.
But, this verse says ‘when you walk through the fire’. It doesn’t say run or sprint. It says walk. Why is that? Because when you have God with you, there is no reason to panic or fear – you can walk through the trials knowing that He is with you and He will give you all the strength to get through the storm.
Your trials can either drown you or make you stronger. If you choose to do it by your own strength, you will most likely drown, but if you choose to go through the trial with the Lord along side you, He will protect you and strengthen you.
The promise you can cling to no matter how severe the trial is this – God is with you.
