Two weeks ago Colby and I were signed up to run a half-marathon but due to a monsoon that came through Dallas the race got canceled. I ended up running the 13.1 by myself through the neighborhood, but since it wasn’t quite the same as running an official race I looked online and signed up for another half-marathon that took place this past Saturday.
This was was called the Mckinney Mini and was hosted by the Frisco Running Company. My only training for the race was running the half a few weeks prior. Due to an injury, I wasn’t able to train for that one either, but I knew once I got out there, I would take it slow and do whatever it took to cross the finish line.
Besides a few sprinkles at the beginning, the weather was pretty good. While running, I was reminded and amazed at how many volunteers and police offices are needed to put on any race. I was happy to have lots of options for water stations (unlike when I ran two weeks ago and had no water the whole time) and fun cheerleaders and support along the way because it truly does make a difference. There was even a sign I could totally relate to as it said, “I am never running again —-> oh wait, look there is another race”. That is totally me. I don’t consider myself a runner and running 13 miles is by no means easy for me, but since I know my body is capable I try to overcome the mental part of it all and you better believe that during the races I tell myself I am never going to do another.. until hours later when I am searching for the next one to sign up for.
Besides the half I did on my own, which was unofficial, this was my fastest time and the first half I did with no walking! I am not sure what is next on the calendar, but I think I will try to recover from my injury for now and check out to see what the Frisco Running Club will off next year. If you want to see other races I have done you can see them below (only sharing half-marathons, triathlons, and Head for the Cure races)
