On My Knees

On My Knees

For the past few months I have been going into our nursery every day and praying on my knees. It’s such a special time to pray for our future children and pray over the room where our babies will sleep.

When Colby lived in Georgia last year, I would start every day on my knees (I would literally roll right out of bed, straight to the floor), but when he moved back, I got out of the habit.

A few months ago, I realized I missed that time with the Lord, so one day I decided to go into the nursery and get on my knees. Why do I pray on my knees? I’m not doing this because I think it’s going to get God’s attention or get my prayer answered any quicker than if I were in the check out line at a grocery store saying a prayer. I do this because it shows a position of respect, fear, and reverence for the Lord. It demonstrates humility and desperate dependence on Him.  All throughout the bible there are different positions of prayer, so praying on our knees isn’t any better than standing up or sitting down, but Jesus modeled how to pray in Luke 22:41, “And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed.”  Remember that when we pray, it’s not the position of our body that matters, but what matters to God is the condition of our heart.

Often we think of people getting on their knees when they are their weakest point in life. I think the cool thing for me right now, is I feel at the strongest point in my faith. The thing I hate to I hear people say is “all I could do was pray”. Shouldn’t that be the first thing you do? What if instead of just getting on our knees when we are desperate, we started every day like that?

Samuel Chadwick said, “The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying.  He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work, and prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks our wisdom, but trembles when we go to our knees in prayer.” I love this quote. There is nothing I like more than hearing that the devil trembles and he does that when we are on our knees for the Lord.

“Prayer does not change the purpose of God, but prayer does change the action of God.” Chuck Smith

I love this picture below. I’ve been convicted to always open my hands when praying. I do this because I’m waiting to receive from the Lord. I am waiting very expectantly, with my hands wide open for His blessings to rain down upon us!
