Health + Infertility: Sugar

Health + Infertility: Sugar

I am continuing my series about various chemicals, foods, or products that not only effect our health, but our overall fertility too. Today’s topic is sugar. This isn’t about sugar found in natural sources like fruit, but this is about refined sugar.

Because I eat healthy, I am often given a hard time, “You don’t need to lose weight,”many say. What people don’t understand is that it’s not about weight, but it’s about overall health. I believe that every piece of food you put in your body matters. You have control over choosing to feed yourself food that will heal and help your body or the alternative of eating food that will hurt and destroy your body. I believe food is natural medicine and the best way to align your bodies to function properly is to eat healthy.

I could go on and on about that, but let’s stick to the topic of sugar. Do you know that sugar isn’t good for you? Do you really understand the negative impact it can have on your body? There are various types of sugars and you might recognize several different terms like glucose, maltose, sucrose, and lactose. Sugar offers nothing good for you. It’s not only empty calories, but it has no nutritional value either. No vitamins. No healthy fats. Nothing.

There are so many negative effects of consuming sugar. The list is too long to cover everything, but here are a list of some reasons not to eat sugar:

  • Sugar turns into fat which then damages the liver
  • Sugar causes dysfunction to your metabolic system
  • Sugar increases risk of disease
  • Sugar can be addictive
  • Sugar casues insulin disorders such as diabetes
  • Sugar leads to obesity because empty calories lead to more eating
  • Sugar can lead to cancer due to it’s harmful effects
  • Sugar can raise LDL which leads to high cholesterol
  • Sugar stores as bad bacteria in your mouth which is bad for your teeth.

As if all of that isn’t bad enough, sugar also has a negative effect on fertility. Sugar causes the release of cortisol and adrenalin which in turn causes a hormonal imbalance. It also has negative effects on PMS, endometrosis, and also depletes essential vitamins.

Clearly I am no doctor, but I hope this post opens your eyes to avoid sugar and if it hasn’t done that, then I hope you at least take your time to do your own research. I am not saying you can never have sugar again, but I highly recommend keeping it to a very minimum, when possible. Your best bet is to only eat natural sugars, like what is found in fruit. Make a shift in your mind and start thinking of food as medicine. Please know that sugar does nothing good for your body and your body wasn’t created to eat it. Look at the labels of the foods you eat and check to see how many sugars you consume a day. Your best bet? Avoid processed food all together. I will be the first to tell you that balance is good, but I do believe the best way to heal your body is to eat as healthy as possible.
