It’s time for another healing journey update! First, if you missed our news, in May my husband Colby was diagnosed with stage 3 testicular cancer that was found on his lymph nodes. After surgery and a 3-night hospital stay he began a 9-week chemotherapy regimen in June.
Despite what doctors told us, God completely protected Colby through chemo and he experienced very few side effects. We are so thankful chemotherapy was uneventful and we definitely celebrated a few weeks ago when all 21 treatments were finished.
The next step after chemo was his PET scan, which he had last Monday. This was Colby’s first time to have a PET scan. The PET scan varies from a CT scan in that it shows activity instead of a snapshot in time like a CT scan would.
The results were not as straight forward as we hoped, but they were still good overall. We went in praying and expecting for an all clear scan with no signs of activity, but our oncologist informed us that the scan did show activity in three spots within his body. Unfortunately it’s all a little ambiguous in that we do not know what the activity is. It could just be inflammation but they also won’t rule out that it’s not cancer. They really don’t know. Because of the activity they won’t use the term remission, yet.
The oncologist said this is normal to see after completing chemo but medically speaking it leaves us in continued unknown territory. However, that does not stop us from doing what we have been doing all along — standing on God’s Word, worshiping our way through and declaring health and healing over Colby. The PET scan might prove otherwise but we believe that by the stripes of Jesus Colby is healed! He is healthy and he is thriving.
Some good news unrelated to the PET scan is that Colby’s tumor markers are all normal and Colby feels great, which at the end of the day is what matters most to us.
The other good news is that Colby’s white blood cells were finally in normal range. While this has nothing to do with cancer it is something we are very thankful for because it means his body can properly fight infection and sickness, allowing him to finally be out and about again.
So what’s next in regards to Colby’s appointments? Well we wait. More waiting! Colby will go in for blood work in 6 weeks and then do another PET scan in 3 months. We truly believe that the next scan will be what we use to testify that Colby is cancer free and until that happens, we will continue to thank and praise the Lord while we wait!
We shared more details about the journey itself on A Cup Full of Hope Podcast including why we believe Colby was so protected throughout his journey. You can listen to the episode on any podcast app or on the podcast website here.
For those of you who have prayed along side of us, thank you! For those of you who sowed into us with finances or gift cards, thank you! We truly are so grateful for each you.
