He Gives the Barren Woman Children

He Gives the Barren Woman Children

“He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the Lord!” Psalm 113:9

I’ve been deeply moved by this passage lately, but not just this verse—Psalm 113 as a whole. While it’s tempting to focus on verse 9, which celebrates God giving children to the barren woman—hallelujah!—it’s crucial to recognize the powerful verses that come before it.

Praise the Lord, you his servants;
    praise the name of the Lord.
Let the name of the Lord be praised,
    both now and forevermore.
From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
    the name of the Lord is to be praised.

 The Lord is exalted over all the nations,

    his glory above the heavens.
Who is like the Lord our God,
    the One who sits enthroned on high,
who stoops down to look
    on the heavens and the earth?

He raises the poor from the dust

    and lifts the needy from the ash heap;
he seats them with princes,
    with the princes of his people.
He gives the barren woman a home
    as a happy mother of children.

Praise the Lord.

Psalm 113 as a whole is a psalm of praise, emphasizing God’s greatness, majesty, and glory. It powerfully highlights God’s power and compassion! It points out His consistency and faithfulness.

Psalm 113:9 is incredibly encouraging, but don’t miss the praise-filled verses that lead up to it! Let this Psalm be a reminder of the power and majesty of our God and the importance of our praise!
