Confronting the Lies of Infertility

National Infertility Awareness Week is here, and we’re confronting the thoughts that have tried to take root. Infertility has a way of planting lies: telling you you’re forgotten, behind, broken, and more. But you don’t have to agree with them. This week, we’re choosing to expose those lies and replace them with truth.

For my 12th annual collaborative NIAW post, I invited our leaders to share the real thoughts they’ve wrestled with, and the truth that set them free. The heart behind Moms in the Making has always been this: to help women uproot lies and plant truth. And over the years, we’ve watched hundreds, if not thousands, of women do exactly that, experiencing freedom, hope, and transformation along the way.

Go read their words and be reminded of what’s true. If you find that you, too, have believed any of the lies they shared, repent and replace them with the new truth provided below.

Alicia Zapata-Couret | Fort Myers, FL – I used to believe that infertility was my identity. I found myself thinking that infertility would always be my future and nothing would change. But I had to break the agreement with that lie. The truth is my identity is in God and the work of the Cross that Jesus died on to give me. I am his beloved daughter, and he had a better future for me than infertility. He has brought blessings through friendships and through my miracle son.

Angelique Robles | Palm Bay, FL – I used to find myself thinking that infertility was the price I had to pay for past sins. But I had to break agreement with that lie. The truth is Jesus paid for all my sins on the cross, His blood has purified me, I have been made into a new creation and there is no condemnation in Christ.

Beth Cacciapalle | Clinton Township, MI – I used to always think and even say, there has to be something wrong with me because we hadn’t conceived, even with medical treatments. But I had to break the agreement with that lie. The truth is I am fearfully & wonderfully made, fully known and made in the image and likeness of God.

Brittany Mulinix | Defiance, OH – I used to believe that my infertility journey was something to be ashamed of. But I had to break agreement with that lie. The truth is God has used my story to bring glory to Him, to restore my relationship with Him and bring hope and encouragement to so many women also walking this road.

Joie Isgitt | Many, LA – I used to find myself thinking that my body was broken, that it had failed me and failed to carry my babies. But I had to break agreement with that life. The truth is, I am fearfully and wonderfully made, my body is healthy and whole and will function as God created it to.

Kaitlan Merz | Delaware, OH – I used to believe I wasn’t worthy of becoming a mom, but I had to break agreement with that lie. The truth is I am worthy, cherished and loved by God and He has called me to be fruitful.

Kaitlyn Rychlowski | Fond du Lac, WI – I used to believe that infertility was punishment from God. I had to break agreement with that lie. The truth is that God has such good plans and is so faithful in fulfilling his promises! He did it and will do it again for you too!

Kristin Brown | Winston Salem, NC – I used to believe that I was too broken to help others heal but I had to break agreement with that lie. The truth is the challenges I have faced are a powerful part of my testimony and by partnering with God I am victorious!

Mary Fish | Mount Gilead, NC – I used to believe I was unworthy, but I broke the agreement with that lie. The truth is I was made worthy through Jesus! It’s never been anything I could do. He paid it all for me, and He chose me.

Matti Garza | Oakland, CA – I used to believe that I had nothing left, my marriage was going to end and that God forgot about me. But I had to break agreement with that lie. The truth is, God has given me so much—His love, a strong marriage, purpose, ideas, and a testimony to inspire other women to keep hope alive.

Nikky Jost | Seattle, WA – I used to believe that I was alone in my infertility and that I was unable to carry a baby because of xyz (My weight, my diagnoses, my mental health), but I had to break the agreement with that lie. The truth is, I am fruitful in every season. My body is made whole by Christ! He is for me not against me, His promises are YES and AMEN!

Shirley Williamson | Montville, NJ – I used to believe that I’m worthless and have no value. But I had to break the agreement with that lie.  The truth is that I’m the daughter of the King of kings, and my Abba Father loves me.

Sierra Fair | Lowell, Arkansas – I found myself thinking I had to earn my way to having a baby. But I had to break the agreement with that lie. The truth is that Christ already paid the cost for my sins, and the Father gives good and perfect gifts to His children!

And for me? I used to believe that I had to strive and work hard to “earn” a baby. But I had to break the agreement with that lie. The truth is, babies are a gift, given by grace, earned by faith. Now, I can rest in the finished work of Christ because there is nothing I have to do to earn a baby.
