Celebrating My Birthday!

YAY! Today is my birthday! It feels a little weird to make a post about my birthday but two years ago the Lord really spoke to me on the importance of celebrating life.

Just 5 years ago, when I turned 30, I let so many things keep me from celebrating. My circumstances around me, another year gone by with no babies in my arms and the “who cares it’s just another year” attitude, to name just a few. But thankfully the past few years and today have been different.

I can assume that many of you have had the same thoughts, especially the “who cares about birthdays when you are in your 30’s, 40’s and beyond” attitude. I get it. In all honesty I always used to think it was so weird when people made a big deal out of their birthday. At times I even thought it was selfish.

But now, I almost think it’s selfish not to celebrate. This day is not about me, but it’s about celebrating the amazing life God has given me. It’s about celebrating his goodness and faithfulness. He has done so much through me and with me and for that reason alone, I think today, and every day, is worth celebrating.

I have realized over the years that every day is a gift. I know so many people, even young people, never get to see their next birthday and because of that, I am choosing to not only acknowledge the day, but celebrate it too.

So today I am 35. It’s a little bittersweet entering my 35th year because my 34th was so good. I truly think I grew more in my walk with Christ in my 34th year than any other year and although I hate to say goodbye to that, I am believing that the same will hold true for this year too.

Of course, I don’t know what the upcoming year will hold. But I am going to continue to make the most of every day. I will continue to fix my eyes on Christ as I praise my way through the storms. And no matter what this year brings I will continue to have an attitude of celebration! It’s much more fun this way and I am convinced there are too many good things in life to not celebrate them each and every day.
