Cabo San Lucas Trip

Cabo San Lucas Trip

Colby and I returned last week from a 7 day trip to Cabo San Lucas. We had previously been to several other areas in Mexico, including Cancun, Cozumel, Riveria Mays and Puerto Vallarta but this was our first time visiting Cabo! We hadn’t been to Mexico since going on a cruise in January 2020 and the last time we spent more than a day there was when we went to Cancun 5 years ago in January 2018.

We were originally supposed to go on this trip in February 2022, but just a few days before leaving, we realized my passport was expired. It was a big oops. But it all worked out and after over a year of waiting, we were finally able to go and we were so grateful to be there.

I think we would both agree Cabo has been our favorite part of Mexico so far. Mainly because of the terrain and the mountains surrounding the beach. We are usually split 50/50 on our love for the beach and the mountains so anytime we can have both at the same time is a big win for us.

But of course, just like anything, there are pros and cons. The pros in Cabo were the terrain. The cons were that the area we stayed did not have a swimmable beach, which we knew that going into the trip. Considering the time of the year, the water probably would have been too cold in general, but it’s definitely something to note if you enjoy getting in the ocean, like we do. In addition, we usually absolutely love to walk on the beach barefoot, but the sand actually hurt. We weren’t expecting that either. Neither is a big deal overall but worth mentioning for any one who is picky about their beaches.

Day 1 – Day 2 // Travel to Cabo and Beach Days

Flying to Cabo was fairly easy as it’s just a 3 hour direct flight from DFW! After arriving at our resort and getting acclimated we spent the 1st and 2nd day at the beach!

Day 3 // Hiking

We spent most of our days relaxing beachside, but we did leave the resort two times. One, was to go on a hike up to the lighthouse. This hike was a guided tour from our resort. It was fairly easy hike, around 2 miles roundtrip. It gave us great views of the ocean and helped us get in some exercise too. If you ever have a chance to hike in Cabo, I highly recommend it! If we ever have a chance to go back to the Cabo area I would love to go on more hikes.

Day 4 // Whale Watching Tour

The second time we left our resort, was to go on a whale watching tour. Colby and I went on a whale watching tour 10 years ago in Canada and did not see one whale, so we had been wanting to go ever since. The great thing about Cabo is we could see whales from our resort, but we are still so glad we went on the tour.

We booked with Cabo Trek and they made the experience so lovely. We went on the 8am tour and left from the main marina in Cabo. In addition to the 10 passengers, we had a marine biologist as our guide and she was so helpful in sharing all the facts about the whales and other animals.

We were out at sea for 2.5 hours and it gave us plenty of time to see lots of whales. We also stopped by a historical landmark, the arch, where we saw lots of sea otters too.

The whales were absolutely amazing! Seeing them up-close was phenomenal! As always, the pictures and videos don’t even do it justice. If you ever have a chance to go whale watching, I highly recommend it. And if you are ever in Cabo, we had the best time with Cabo Trek.

Day 4 – Day 7 // Beach Days

We spent our last two full days and our last half day before traveling home at the beach! We got up around 6:30am and enjoyed some quiet time outside. Hardly anyone was around in the mornings which was absolutely lovely. In addition, we spent our days reading, playing cards, resting, playing football and whale watching. We could see whales from our resort, which was so fun. Thankfully we brought our binoculars too, which I highly recommend to do because there were whales all throughout the day.

Weather

Overall we had great weather. I was a little nervous about it because it was in the low 70’s all week and I didn’t know if that would be warm enough but it turned out to be perfect. There were a few hours on 2 of the days when it got cloudy and the wind picked up, which made it a little chilly, but overall, it was perfect! The nights did get cooler so I highly recommend bringing a light jacket if you are planning on being there during the winter.

Our Resort

We stayed at the Pueblo Bonito Pacifica and had nothing but good things to say. We spent most of our time along the beach but there were two pools as well. On site there were 3 restaurants for dinner but through our reservation we had access to several of the other resorts too. Because ours was adults-only and we prefer a quiet and peaceful atmosphere, we stayed at our resort the majority of the time.

Anyway, everything about our trip in general was wonderful. From the flights to the food and everything in between, everything went smooth! If you ever have a chance to go to Cabo, I highly recommend it! And, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
