Better Not Bitter

Better Not Bitter

Every circumstance or situation you come across can leave you taking two routes: the route that makes you better or the route that makes you bitter. Do you realize that everything you face is meant to build you up and mold you into the image of Christ?

Whether it’s the loss of a spouse, a financial crisis, or infertility your heartache and trial are not supposed to be without purpose. Yes, they can leave you bitter, but do you realize that choice is up to you? Think about it. You get fired from your job, will that make you better or bitter? You can be frustrated, mad, upset, and wallow up in your circumstances, or you can take the opportunity to make the most of your situation as you spend intentional time to make yourself better.

What does it look like to pursue the better route? It’s choosing to thrive through your trial, not just survive. It’s choosing to keep your eyes fixed on Christ, not on your problem. It’s recognizing that each trial you face is meant to build you up, not tear you down. It’s recognizing that your wait is a time to trust the Lord, not run away from him. It’s choosing to pursue thankfulness and peace, not anger and resentment.

It doesn’t matter what it is, everything you face can make you better or bitter. I have had many days that have been bitter, but I will tell you now it’s not a pleasant place to be and it’s definitely not what the Lord wants either. Choose the better route and pursue a Spirit filled life of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control which will all lead to make you better.
