After talking about it for awhile and baptism being on our hearts for months now, Colby and I got baptized this past weekend. It was a sweet time and full of significance!
Even though we have both been believers for awhile now, we were finally able to express outwardly the inner transformation we experienced when we accepted Jesus as our savior. It was important to us that we were fully submersed in the water. In Greek, baptism means baptizo which means, ‘to submerge, dip, or immerse’. It signifies what Jesus did to save us – the death, burial, and the resurrection. What happens when we get baptized is the outward symbolism of what happens when we become believers – the death and burial of our sins and old life, and the resurrection of our new life.
We know that baptism has nothing to do with our salvation, but we also know how important baptism is to Jesus. We are excited to share outwardly what we experienced inwardly so long ago, for we are a new creation in Christ; the old has gone, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17!
