2 Peter 3:9 – He is Patient #118

2 Peter 3:9 – He is Patient #118

I enjoyed my week of fasting, but it is good to be back. 1 + 2 Peter have been rocking my world this past week and I knew I wanted to share from what I have been reading.

While 2 Peter 3 speaks about the end of days before Jesus comes back, I believe this verse is so applicable to our wait for earthly promises too (babies, spouse, healing, etc). Peter addresses the fact that although God may have seemed slow to the believers as they faced persecution, He is always right on time. 2 Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.”

Not only does God keep every promise He gives us, but He never delays the promise either. While He may seem slow in answering His promises, it’s because He is not on our timetable. Just as the verse before says in 2 Peter 3:8, “A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day.” His perspective of time is much different than mine and yours. That means while you feel like it is taking Him forever to complete your request, He is actually working according to His time frame.

As the verse ends, it’s clear that God’s desire is for sinners to return to Him. He doesn’t want us to be looking towards the next life-goal as we wait on Him, but He wants us to be proactive with our wait and accomplish the purposes that He has set before us. He has not forgotten you or what He has promised you. In fact, He knows the exact moment when you will reap your promise, so make the most of your wait and seek to know Him in deeper relationship by returning back to Him and leading others to know and love Him.
