1 Peter 1:3-4 – Living Hope #128

1 Peter 1:3-4 – Living Hope #128

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a good weekend and a sweet day celebrating Jesus. The good news is the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ doesn’t stop on Easter Sunday. Who is continuing to celebrate with me today?

I am sticking with the theme of the resurrection and sharing 1 Peter 1:3-4 which says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.”

When Peter recognized what Jesus had done, his very first reaction was to praise God. Shouldn’t we always come to Christ with a heart of thankfulness? While you might be facing trials, isn’t salvation from Jesus the best and biggest gift itself? I love that Peter reminds us of the attitude we should have which should always be gratitude.

We can be thankful because God sent His one and only son to die for us. Why? It all goes back to the fact that God is full of mercy. I love this quote by Spurgeon, “No other attribute could have helped us had mercy been refused. As we are by nature, justice condemns us, holiness frowns upon us, power crushes us, truth confirms the threatening of the law, and wrath fulfills it. It is from the mercy of our God that all our hopes begin.” Because God is a merciful father, He has given you “new birth into a living hope” that came forth because Jesus was raised from the dead. That one moment in time changed everything for you and for me.

Our living hope of eternal life begins all because of mercy. And that hope? It gives you an inheritance. Not an inheritance that can “perish, spoil, or fade away”, but it’s a hope that is always there. Nothing can stop it. Seek our merciful Father and He will give you hope for your situation as you wait to receive your full inheritance.
