I got back last night from an infertility and adoption conference in Orange County, California. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to go due to the passing of my father-in-law, but after rearranging some flights, I decided to make it work. After my father-in-laws funeral, I flew home to Dallas to unpack and repack and then flew out to California to attend the event.
This was the 5th annual Choose Joy conference, but it was my 1st time to attend. The weekend started off with a speakers luncheon, followed by the event Friday night and the majority of the day Saturday. The theme this year was “From Surviving to Thriving.” I was so honored to be one of the speakers for this event, speaking on the topic of “being still.” Due to the circumstances the week before and my schedule looking completely different than I thought it would, I felt so unprepared. However, I knew it wasn’t about me and I trusted that God would give me the words to speak, and that he did. Hopefully when I gain some energy back, I can expand more on what I shared about.
It was so fun to meet so many that I have connected with through social media and my blog. There is always something to be said about being in the same room with people who just get it. I even shared a room with 3 other women who I had never met before. I was exhausted and definitely didn’t feel like myself all weekend, but I was so glad that I went. On Sunday, before flying home, I got to meet a friend that I connected with many years ago. She now has her miracle boy after a long wait. It was such a joy to not only spend time with her but hold her baby and make a very quick visit to the beach. As if that wasn’t wonderful enough, on the flight home last night I got to sit next to another girl who attended the conference. Talk about a divine appointment from the Lord. Our chatting sure did make the 3 hour trip go by so fast. All in all it was a great weekend, but after a hard week and being gone for so long, I am so very glad to be home!
