Why Essential Oils?

Hi! Today, I am excited to have a friend share about a topic that we are both passionate about, essential oils! When this topic was first brought to my attention I dismissed it immediately, but the Lord slowly opened up my heart and now l use the oils for a wide variety of purposes ranging from helping to support my body to cleaning around the house. I could go on and on, but instead I have asked my friend Jessica to post while we are on vacation. She has been such a foundation of knowledge for me on the topic and is always quick to give me advice when I have had questions. Thank you Jessica for sharing!

Why Essential Oils?

Hi there! Well, first let me introduce myself. My name is Jessica Brown. I’m a lover of Jesus, wife (married for 7 years), stay-at-home mama to 2 littles, health fanatic, and I love Young Living Essential oils! I met Caroline through the ladies Bible study at our church and I immediately fell in love with her! She is an inspiration to me in so many ways and I love her passion for the Lord!

I started to really gain a passion for health when I was in college at Abilene Christian University, where I majored in Kinesiology and minored in Nutrition. I worked as an exercise physiologist in Cardiac Rehab after college and loved being able to pour into the lives of others in order to help them become healthier and happier. Then when my husband and I started trying to have babies, that passion for health grew even more. What I was putting in/on my body became that much more important to me. I was learning more each day about how important a real food diet is for fertility and how the chemicals in the common products we use on a daily basis can work against fertility as well. If you want to learn more, I encourage you to check out: The Weston A Price Foundation and The Environmental Working Group.

We tried to get pregnant for 8 months with no success. Throughout the waiting period God took me on an amazing journey of learning to wait on Him and there are a lot more details on that I’m happy to share another time. A close friend of mine suggested I get my progesterone levels checked and it turned out my levels were super low. The midwife I was seeing said with levels that low my body wouldn’t be able to hold a pregnancy. She suggested I start using Young Living’s Progessence Plus serum, in addition to a couple of other natural supplements such as Chaste Tree, etc. to help support healthy hormone levels in my body. The same month we discovered this was also the same month we had some really neat prayers and words prophesied over us regarding our soon to be son! At the time, I had no clue about essential oils or Young Living as a company. I ended up going to an essential oils class during my pregnancy and I was hooked! I loved knowing there was a way I could support the health of our growing family with products that have safe ingredients.

With the research I’ve done and the results I’ve experienced, I prefer to use Young Living. I choose Young Living not only because they are the leader in the industry and have been around for over 20 years, but because of their Seed to Seal promise. Seed to Seal is Young Living’s promise that from the sourcing of the seed to the sealing of the bottle, they are committed to providing the purest and highest quality essential oil. I’ve seen these essential oils support the immune systems of my family in an amazing way and they have provided me with healthy hormone support. I have also experienced wonderful emotional support from the oils during times of occasional stress and when I had some mild baby blues after giving birth to my babies. Here are a few other reasons why I love Young Living essential oils:

  • God created them and they have been used since Biblical times. If they are good enough for Jesus, they’re good enough for me!
  • They are safe and easy to use. I have loved being able to use them safely during pregnancy and on my babies since birth.
  • There are multiple application methods – Inhalation, Topical and Ingestion. So when you have some family members who are not wanting to put any on, you just diffuse instead and they still gain the benefit!
  • They are one of the only things small enough to be able to cross the blood brain barrier, making them able to take effect almost immediately in the body.
  • There is scientific research to back them up! PubMed and Google Scholar are great resources where you can find peer reviewed journal articles about the power of essential oils. It’s important to not believe everything you read and to know the source! These oils are powerful and effective and there is some really great research coming out about them. An easy way to research an essential oil is to do a search on a constituent found in it. Example: Lemon essential oil contains the naturally occurring constituent limonene.

If you want to learn more reasons why we use essential oils, including the more scientific stuff, go watch this YouTube video done by Dr. Jim Bob Haggerton. He has done tons and tons of research on essential oils as well as how to provide the best health support for the various systems of the body. While you’re there, browse his YouTube videos for lots of education and encouragement.

I’m so thankful that God created the amazing resource of essential oils for us and the way they have changed my life and the lives of many of my family and friends! If you want to learn more, here is a link to our online class about essential oils. Our class details the basics of essential oils such as what they are, ways to use them, safety tips, etc. For more information be sure to get in touch with Caroline or the friend who directed you here.

Is there an essential oil that would help my chest & nasal congestion? I would love to be able to breathe, particularly at night! My doctor thinks I have seasonal allergies; I’m not sure. All I know is it’s a struggle to stay calm when I can’t breathe well due to all the mucus in my chest and throat – is there an essential oil, as well, that can help me relax without making me groggy?
