Remain in Me Remain in You John 15

John 15:7-8 Ask Anything #192

There is so much goodness in John 15, I just have to keep sharing from it. So far I have shared John 15:1-2 and 4-5 and today I am sharing 7-8, which says, If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”

There is a reason that the Father says “ask whatever you wish.” No, he isn’t a genie. No you can’t ask him for 10 billion dollars and poof, it shows up overnight. What’s important is to focus on what precedes that part of the verse, “If you remain in me and my words remain in you.” As mentioned, you can read the prior two posts to understand what it looks like to remain in Christ, but God knows that when you remain in him, when you truly, whole-heartedly are seeking him, you will only ask for the things that line up with his desires and his Word.

Just as any father desires, Christ loves to do things for you and give you good gifts. Does that mean you get what you want when you want it? No, but he loves to give things that are at the core of his heart. Naturally, the more you abide in him, the more your prayers will start to line up with him and the more you will start to see your prayers answered. One of the many privileges of walking closely with Christ is receiving answers to your prayers.

And the whole purpose of bearing fruit? Of remaining and abiding in him? Of asking according to his will? Is to bring him Glory. This life isn’t about you, it’s all about him!

Are you remaining in Christ? If so, keep asking, seeking and knocking with the desires that he has given you. Ultimately, if he answers, it’s because he knows the answer will bear more fruit for his kingdom. And in the end, it will bring him glory. God always wants what is best for you, but first he asks you to stay close to him, to seek him, to talk to him, to love him, to respect him and to remain in him.

Dear Caroline! I needed this today. I am SO grateful you shared what God placed upon your heart. I have been feeling this in prayer…the dear Lord WANTS us to ask. I thought of when He told His disciples, something along this line, “up to this point, you haven’t asked me for anything. Ask that your joy may be full.” You have encouraged me to step forward and ASK Him for what I am longing for. I got so much enlightenment from the point you made that if it is something that will further His Kingdom, it is something that will bear more fruit. This gave me the confirmation I needed, so thank you!! I am praying for you.

It is so true that as we remain in the Word we will love what God loves and desire what He delights to give us. Amazing how He transforms our desires and gives us those!

God gives us His eyes to see and heart to desire things for his kingdom when we stay close to His word.

So glad you shared this today. It’s beautiful how God shapes our desires to want what is for his glory. He is good.
